Leicester Cathedral and the tomb of Richard III

Leicester Cathedral, Leicester
Visited September 2016

Leicester Cathedral is of course now best known as the final resting place of King Richard III, whose remains were found under a nearby carpark a few years ago. His tomb, a beautifully simple block of stone, and the nearby visitor centre (well worth a visit) are the main attractions in the area. However, if you're interested in gravestones it's well worth looking round the rest of the small cathedral to see some of the gravestones and memorial stones around the walls and in the floor - the light wasn't great for photography during my visit, so not a lot of pictures I'm afraid.

Outside the cathedral there's a small garden area, and this is full of the slate gravestones so common in this area. Most date from the 18th and 19th century, and some are behind railings, but it's a pleasant place to potter around for a little while, or take a break between the Cathedral and the Richard III visitor centre.
