Bath Abbey

Bath Abbey, near the Roman Baths, dates from the 15th Century. Having fallen into ruin during the Reformation, it became a parish church in 1560 and was restored in the late 16th & early 17th century - further building alterations and repairs have taken place since, of course! Burials took place in the crypt until 1844, when Bath Abbey Cemetery was opened.
On the walls are 635 memorials, and the floor is comprised of over 890 flat gravestones; there are some splendid memorials in the Abbey, mainly from the 1700s and 1800s. Plenty of skulls and other fine carvings to spot! There are also some free-standing tombs which are well worth looking out for.
The Abbey also has a lovely fan ceiling, and some gorgeous stained glass. It doesn't look much from the outside, but is definitely well worth a visit.
