Cross Bones Graveyard, London

Cross Bones Graveyard, London.
Visited January 2014

A shrine in south London, near London Bridge station, on the site of a 16th/17th century pauper's graveyard. The burial ground, on un-consecrated ground, was closed to burials in 1853, and it's been vacant since then. Excavations during the 1990s Jubilee line extension found hundreds of skeletons.

No burial markers can be seen today, but there is a shrine on the gates, and a vigil is held there every month.
