Skene Burial Enclosure, Dyce, Aberdeen
Visited December 2018
Nowhere near a church or other graveyard, this is a small private burial enclosure for the Skene family, built in what looks like a Greek style, probably in the 19th century. Some stones are likely older, particularly the lintel stone above the entrance, with a date of 1689 carved into it. The Skene family are an old, well established, family in the Aberdeenshire area
The enclosure is
in a group of trees located on the banks of the River Don, near a carpark on Riverview Drive - it's just beside the sewage works (lovely!). There are very few memorials here, and it's been grafittied, so it's not really worth a special visit, but do pop in if you're in the area. Most of the graves date to the 19th century, although there is one from the 1970s in one corner. On a sunny winter's day there were just two of us and a dog in the area, with most dogwalkers sticking to the main path, and it was a tranquil spot to spend a few minutes.
