Kensal Green Cemetery, London
Visited November 2014
One of the Magnificent Seven London cemeteries, and the earliest of the lot, I've visited this north London site a few times and I always love it. It’s a great example of high Victorian mourning architecture, with gothic next to Egyptianising next to weeping angels.
In late autumn it had more atmosphere than on a bright sunny summers day, and a lot more gravestones were visible where the trees had begun to shed their leaves. Despite being by busy main roads, railway tracks and the canal it always seems peaceful here, and there’s plenty of room to walk and get away from the London hustle and bustle. In this visit, on a damp autumn day, there was hardly anyone around, probably because it rained on and off all afternoon!
