Necropolis at the Porta Nocera, Pompeii, Italy.
Visited October 2012
There was a necropolis outside every gate at Pompeii, the best (and most easily visited) of which is outside the Porta Nocera, to the south of the city. Preserved by the Vesuvian explosion of 79CE, there are some very well preserved late Republican/early Imperial Roman tombs here. What can I say? Everyone should visit Pompeii if they can (and probably sooner rather than later, the way parts of it are decaying).
